About Ella Fitzgerald®

Dubbed “The First Lady of Song”, Ella Fitzgerald® was the most popular female jazz singer in America for more than 50 years. She won 13 Grammy Awards, sold over 40 million albums thanks to a voice that was flexible, ageless and had a wide range. Her music varied from sultry ballads to sweet jazz and could even imitate musical instruments. She performed all over the world with many of the jazz greats from Duke Ellington to Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra.

Born in Newport News, Virginia, she rose to fame with a little luck and a lot of hard work after winning a chance to sing and compete in an amateur night at the Apollo. After one song, the crowd demanded more, and she knew that she wanted to sing before people for the rest of her life. Ella Fitzgerald® songs that made her famous include “Love and Kisses” and “A-Tisket, A-Tasket” from 1938 which remained on the pop charts for 17 weeks. For Jazz lovers, her 1945 recording of “Flying Home” has been described as one of the most influential jazz recordings of the decade.

About the Collection

This lipstick is part of a 3-pc limited-edition makeup collection celebrating the jazz music and beauty of the First Lady of Song and was created for all the fans of Ella Fitzgerald songs, jazz lovers and everyone who wants to transform themselves into Jazz Age beauties. Bésame founder, Gabriela Hernandez, collaborated with The Ella Fitzgerald® Foundation on all makeup products and shades. As an Ella fan and lover of the Jazz Age, this was a special project for Gabriela who was always inspired by the Ella Fitzgerald and Marilyn Monroe friendship.

“We chose to work with Bésame on this vintage-inspired collection of beauty products celebrating the First Lady of Song, Ella Fitzgerald, because of their high-quality products and the attention-to-detail of founder, Gabriela Hernandez. We knew her designs would capture the spirit of Ella and the era of Jazz and Swing perfectly. We are delighted that Bésame will donate a portion of proceeds from the sales of these beauty products to The Ella Fitzgerald® Foundation. This partnership honors her legacy and commitment to help people of all races, cultures and beliefs. The Foundation was created to provide assistance to at-risk members of our communities, while fostering a love of reading and a love of music and is still changing lives today.”
