This rich red was meticulously researched and created for our 2020 Poppins Collection, resulting in a timeless shade that looks lovely on a wide range of skin tones. Our application guide is modeled after a two step process created in the 1940s by movie industry make-up artists. It has been used for decades on actresses to give them perfect camera ready lips that last throughout a long day of filming. To maximize the wear of your Bésame lipstick, please exercise the following simple steps:

1. Prepare Lips:

Ensure your lips are clean and free of dryness. Hydrate lips with a small amount of your favorite balm and let set for a minute. Blot excess balm and apply a touch of foundation to the edges of your lips. This will lock in the lipstick’s color and extend its wear. Draw in the natural edge of your lips with the Bésame lipstick’s tip sharp point. This will keep the lipstick from bleeding out of the edges of the lip line. Do not overdraw your lip line since this may create an artificial look.

2. Apply Bésame Lip Color:

Using the flat side of your Bésame lipstick, starting at the highest point of the lips directly under the nostrils. Fill in with color, working towards the corner of the lips on one side, then from the center out to the other corner. Apply one coat of color filling in the top and bottom of your lips. If you go outside the lip line, use your finger or a cotton swab to correct it and then blend the area with a bit of your foundation. Press your lips together lightly to distribute the color. For a stronger finish, apply a final coat in the center of the lip. Lastly, use a tissue to gently blot the lips to seal in the color. Blot twice. Add one final coat with one more blot to finish.     Perfect workplace red

    It's rich but muted, so comfortable that I forget I'm wearing lipstick, doesn't become overly dark with reapplication (which is rarely needed anyway), and looks about as "natural" on fair skin as any red lipstick possibly could. I'm running low and am kind of freaking out that it's still out of stock, because I am near dependent on this stuff. It's the only irreplaceable item in my makeup kit. Besame's stock has gotten so irritatingly unpredictable, especially with its classic reds!

    An easy-to-wear muted red that’s still crisp

    I got this color when it was called Poppins Red, & came in the most charming compact and lipstick set ever. I adore strong, rich red lipsticks, but I also enjoy softer reds like this lovely shade. If you’re a little bit tentative about wearing red lipsticks, or you want a subtle or casual look, you’ll like Mary’s Red. Get it. This color is on the warmer side to me, with coral tones, but it’s still quite balanced. It’s a matte finish color that stains very well and is long-wearing, with a light vanilla scent that isn’t too distracting (I don’t notice it after a few minutes). A sophisticated shade that’s distinctive, but not too bold or stark. A friendly, approachable red, it’s a versatile classic that goes well with lots of different styles and colors in my wardrobe.

    Such a pretty muted red. I have a fair neutral to cool skin tone and this shade works perfectly for me. Great for everyday. It's not as bright red as some of their other reds like victory red or forever red (I save those for special occasions). I used to wear the besame red often but I was starting to feel like that one was too pink for me. Mary's red is like a coral and pastel red that is definitely a red lipstick but not an "in-your-face" kind of red. Great for fair skin.
